Procedure
For a person to obtain the prototype constitution he/she can download it from the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Boards website by following this link or can get a soft copy available on CD from the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Boards offices for a fee of KShs. 300.

Instructions
The proposed NGO must have a constitution specifying its objects. The NGO Board issues guidelines stating what registration will be rejected if the proposed constitution does not comply with the guidelines.

Applicants can obtain the prototype constitution by downloading the same from the Boards website or obtain a soft copy available on CD for a fee from the Boards offices.

Need for the Document
The prototype constitution is for guidance only. However, whatever Constitution an NGO may adopt, should in principle provide sufficiently for Management and Structure, Accountability and Transparency in its operations. Such a constitution must embody the prescriptions of the Second Schedule of the Non-Governmental Organization Regulations, 1992. http://www.ngobureau.or.ke/?wpdmdl=598 Further please note to include the mandatory clauses as marked out in this prototype.

A non-governmental organization (NGO) is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group which is organized on a local, national or international level. All NGOs are registered by NGO coordination Board under the NGO coordination Act.


Other uses of the Document/Certificate
When applying to register an NGO, the applicant is supposed to provide the Constitution of the proposed NGO/INGO (filed in Triplicate) and signed by both the proposed 3 officials.

All the 3 constitutions MUST be signed by all the proposed board members on the execution page and by at least one of the proposed officials on each and every page.

The Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Board is a State Corporation established by the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act (Cap 19) of 1990. The Board has the responsibility of regulating and enabling the NGO sector in Kenya. The NGOs Co-ordination Board started its operations in 1992 under the Ministry of State in the Office of the President. The Board is currently under the Ministry of Devolution and Planning. Specifically, the NGOs Co-ordination Board is responsible for inter alia registering, facilitating and coordinating all national and international NGOs operating in Kenya; advising the government on their contribution to national development; providing policy guidelines for NGOs to align their activities with national priorities and receiving and analyzing NGOs annual reports. To facilitate and co-ordinate the work of all national and international NGOs operating in Kenya.
