|How to Obtain Flight Radio Telephony Operator License in Kenya by Kenyans247(m): Sat Feb 2020 01:25pm|

To obtain a Flight Radio Telephony, one has to complete and submit the prescribed Application for Issue or Renewal of a Flight Radio Telephony - Form: O-PEL017 applicant form. http://www.kcaa.or.ke/sites/default/files/forms/O-PEL017%20Radio%20telephony%20Application%20Form.pdf
This form can be obtained by visiting the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Branch Offices or by downloading it from their KCAA Website.
After filling the application documents required to submit them to the KCAA office or you can forwarded them to the:-
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority,
P. O. Box 30163-00100,
You are to submit the application documents with all the required documents. These documents include:-
(i). A knowledge and Practical test results slip;
(ii). Two (2) recent passport size photographs (full face) 2cm by 2.5cm;
(iii). A photo Identification Card or Passport;
You are also to proceed to pay the prescribed application fees and submit the payment receipt to together with the application documents.
An application fee of KSh. 1,200 is charged for the process.
A processing time of 7 days is needed to complete the processing of the Flight Radio Telephony Licence, after which you will be contacted through a phone call to collect your new license at the KCAA offices.
You will be required to carry your identification documents when collecting your new license.

An applicant for a flight radio telephony operator license shall;
Be at least seventeen (17) years of age;
Have the ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
Have undergone the relevant training and passed the written knowledge test for a radio telephony operator license the results of which are valid for twenty four months (2 years) after passing the examination.
Demonstrate a level of knowledge appropriate to the privileges granted to a holder of a flight radiotelephone operator license in an oral examination done by the KCAA examiners.
A fee of Ksh 1,200 is charged for this application
This license is valid for two (2) years from the date of application.

Submit all the required documents to the KCAA offices.
Pay the applicable fees and submit the payment receipt.
Wait for the processing period to elapse then collect your new license.

Need for the Document
The Flight Radio Telephony Operator's License (FRTOL) authorises you to operate an Aircraft Radio Station in a Kenyan registered aircraft.
The license is held in conjunction with another Flight Crew license.
Information which might help
Present a photo Identification Card or a Passport as a form of identification, details of which should be the same as the personal information provided on the prescribed application form; and if the applicant’s identity cannot be verified, the application will be rejected, and the applicant will have to return with the proper identification.
A holder of a flight radio telephony operator license shall have the privilege to use the radio telephone on board an aircraft.
