Procedure

Apply In-Person
The application must be completed in full and be submitted to the Registration and Licensing Department of the Clinical Officers Council before expiry of a practicing license (every 2 years)

Step 1: Make renewal payment
This process should be the first step for an easier renewal procedure. Make payments of renewal fees of Ksh 5,000 to the Clinical Officers Council (COC) accounts. Payments should be made through the following accounts:

Step 2: Make application
Visit the Registration and Licensing Department of the Clinical Officers Council offices to make the application
You will be provided by an application form to complete by a COC officer. The application from can also be downloaded from their website through the following link Application / Renewal of Professional Practice License Form and filled before hand.

The completed application form should be submitted with the following documents
(a) Copy of Clinical Officers Council Registration Certificate
(b) Copy of National Identity Card
(c) Two colored passport size photographs
(d) Expiring original Practice License and
(e) Evidence of having undergone 30 points of Continuous Professional Development every year (CPD Diary)
(f) Payment receipt
The submitted renewal application will be reviewed for reconsideration.
Upon successful review, the applicant will be awarded with a new practising license. This usually takes a period of 60 days.
The applicant will be notified to collect his practising license via text or phone call.
One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.

Eligibility

A licensed clinical officer, holding an expired practice license that has reached the end of its validity period of two years.

Validity

The validity period of the practice license is two years.

The processing time is 60 days.

Instructions

Need for the Document

A Clinical officer is a person who, having successfully undergone a prescribed course of training in an approved training institution, is a holder of a certificate issued by that institution and is registered by the Clinical Officers Council.
Clinical Officers must be licensed with the Clinical Officers Council and meet the council’s registration standards, in order to practice in Kenya.
Each Clinical Officer practicing in Kenya is required to be registered and licensed with Clinical Officers Council of Kenya in accordance with the Clinical Officers Council (Training, Registration and Licensing) Act (cap. 260) of the Laws of Kenya

Information which might help

For a Clinical Officers to practice in Kenya he or she should be licensed with the Clinical Officers of Kenya. The license that will be issued to the Clinical Officer needs to be renewed in every two years.
The license expires on midnight of the expiration date which is the first day of the expiration month.
If a Clinical Officers does not renew their license their name will be removed from the national register and the registration will lapse according to Cap 260 of Kenyan law

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

The license enables Clinical Officers to join their trade union i.e. Kenya Union of Clinical Officers
