How to Renew Tourism License in Kenya by Kenyans247(1): Mon 16, March, 2020 12:32pm
Procedure
To renew tourism license, the applicant has to contact the Tourism Regulatory Authority offices within three months before the expiry date of the license. http://www.tourismauthority.go.ke/index.php/contact-us
The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page or in the Tourism Regulatory Authority's Tourism License Requirements page.

Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page or in the Tourism Regulatory Authority's Service Charter.
On completion of this process, TRA will issue to the applicant a license in the prescribed form as follows:
Class A and B - within 14 days
Class C, D, E, F, and G - within 7 days if there are no new issues
Class H- within 2 months

The Vetting Committee may request for additional documents as they deem necessary.
All Foreign Investors are required to provide evidence of a fixed asset base of at least Ksh 10 Million.
Class A Enterprises (Accommodation Facilities)
Certificate of registration / Incorporation of company
Memorandum and Articles of Association of company
Copy of menu and tariff where applicable
Copy of the current health clearance certificate ( less than three months old)
Medical Certificate of food handlers
CV and professional certificates of the Manager
Managers letter of appointment
Entry permit for all non- Kenyans working in the facility and affidavit for non-resident director(s)
Lease agreement/ copy of title deed of premises occupied by the hotel
Letter of no objection from NEMA
EIA for new facilities / environmental audit for existing facilities
Compliance to tourism or area development plans
Evidence of insurance cover for the premises
Class B Enterprises (Restaurants and other food and beverage services)
Certificate of registration / Incorporation of company
Memorandum and Articles of Association of company
Copy of menu
Copy of the current health clearance certificate (less than three months old)
Medical Certificate of food handlers
CV and professional certificates of the Manager
Managers letter of appointment
Entry permit for all non- Kenyan employees and affidavit for non-resident director(s)
Lease agreement/ copy of title deed of premises occupied by the hotel
Letter of no objection from NEMA
EIA for new facilities / environmental audit for existing facilities
Compliance to tourism or area development plans
Evidence of insurance cover for the premises
Class C Enterprises (Tour Operators, Travel Agencies, Balloon Operators, Local Air Charters, Tourist Service Vehicle Hire, Water Sports and Boat Excursions)
Copy of lease agreement/ title deed of premises
Certificate of registration of company (new applicants)
Memorandum and articles of Association (new applicants)
Work/ entry permit for non- Kenyans involved in the business and copies of affidavit for non- resident director(s)
Copy of insurance cover where applicable
Proof of ownership of vehicle or letter of contract of hire and vehicle inspection report in the case of tour operators and tourist service vehicle hire
CV, professional certificates in ticketing and proficiency in airline reservation systems in case of travel agencies
Certificates of airworthiness and seaworthiness where applicable
Copy of itinerary in case of tour operators
Professional certificates
Copy of pilot licenses indicating their flying hours and air charter license from Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in the case of air charter operators
Class D Enterprises (Game fishing outfitters, enterprises offering camps and camping equipment for hire, nature parks, nature reserves, nature trails, game ranches, amusement parks, non-citizen tour leaders/guides)
Copy of lease agreement/ title deed of premises
Certificate of registration of company (new applicants)
Memorandum and articles of Association (new applicants)
Work/ entry permit for non- Kenyans involved in the business and copies of affidavit for non- resident director(s)
Letter of no objection from NEMA
EIA for new facilities / environmental audit for existing facilities
Compliance to tourism or area development plans
Evidence of insurance cover for the premises
Current certificate of good conduct, letter of reference, professional certificates and copy of current entry permit and passport in case of non-citizen tour leaders/guides
Class E Enterprises (Local traditional boat operators, professional safari photographers, curio vendors, private zoos, citizen tour leaders/guides, general vendors and beach operators)
Current certificate of good conduct, letter of reference, professional certificates, and copy of ID in case of citizen tour leaders/guides
Clearance certificate from Kenya Maritime Authority in the case of local traditional boat operators
Copy of permit / license from the film department, entry permit/ID card/ in case of professional safari photographers
Copy of ID and current certificate of good conduct in the case of curio vendors and beach operators
EIA/ environmental audit, approval by NEMA and clearance from the KWS in the case of private zoos
Class F Enterprises (Entertainment facilities)
Copy of lease agreement/ title deed of premises
Certificate of registration of company (new applicants)
Memorandum and articles of Association (new applicants)
Work/ entry permit for non- Kenyans involved in the business and copies of affidavit for non- resident director(s)
Letter of no objection from NEMA
EIA for new facilities / environmental audit for existing facilities
Compliance to tourism or area development plans
Evidence of insurance cover for the premises
Clearance from the Betting & Control Board where applicable
Class G Enterprises (Conference and events services)
Copy of lease agreement/ title deed of premises
Certificate of registration of company (new applicants)
Memorandum and articles of Association (new applicants)
Work/ entry permit for non- Kenyans involved in the business and copies of affidavit for non- resident director(s)
Letter of no objection from NEMA
EIA for new facilities / environmental audit for existing facilities
Compliance to tourism or area development plans
Evidence of insurance cover for the premises

Class H Enterprises (Tourism and hospitality training institutions)

Holders of tourism license after it expires

Instructions
Applications for the renewal of the license should be submitted within three months before the expiry date of the license.

Any application submitted after the expiry date of the license shall attract a penalty of ten percent of the fees payable for each month defaulted.

State whether any of the partners/directors/shareholders have a beneficial interest in any other business licensed to provide or operate tourism activities and services
Whether any previous application by you been rejected under the Act? (If so, give details).
Whether any previous license granted to you under the Act been revoked, cancelled or suspended? (If so, give details)

Need for the Document
Tourism licensing is premised on ensuring customer satisfaction and competitiveness of the country as a tourist destination. Thus, all activities and services as outlined in the 9th Schedule of Tourism Act, 2011 need to manage customer expectations by maintaining minimum standards.

In particular, regulation has a number of benefits which include:

Bringing order to the sector: Licensing is a deterrent to would-be unscrupulous businessmen since punitive measures are taken against those who contravene laws.

Ensuring Customer Satisfaction: Tourist handlers are expected to demonstrate high levels of professionalism and integrity. Licensing ensures that only qualified personnel are engaged in the industry.

Helps Enforce Standards: Overseas suppliers have more confidence in dealing with ground handlers who are not only licensed by the Government but are also members of recognized trade associations. The Associations follow codes of ethic approved by the Authority.

Compilation of a data base and directory: Licensed operators and businesses will comprise a database and directory that would be instrumental for planning, marketing of the destination and other decision making processes.
