Uhuru's Brother-in-Law Sues Mother Over Multi-Million Property by Kenyans247(m): Mon 23, March, 2020 01:12pm
President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother-in-law has moved to court against his stepmother demanding millions of shillings.

In the case filed under a certificate of urgency, the kin, Udi Gecaga, is seeking control of the money, to the tune of Ksh57.6 million linked to the transfer of shares of an insurance company.

According to a report by Business Daily, Udi claims that his stepmother, Margaret Gacigi Gecaga, held on to the money despite a Court of Appeal order that stated that the 3.2 million shares were not part of the matrimonial property that his father, Bethuel Gecaga, had left behind.
The money is just part of the vast property that was left by Bethuel including land, real estate, farms and interests in various blue-chip corporations.

Margaret lost the first two rounds of the case at both the Court of Appeal and the High Court with judges ruling that she had no direct claim on the shares.

"The plaintiff has in defiance of the terms of the consent order refused to agree to the release of the funds.

"It is in the interest of justice that an order be made for the release of the funds to the 2nd [Udi] and 3rd [Quinvest Limited] defendants," argued Udi in a petition in March 2016.

"We find no fault in the manner the learnt Judge exercised his discretion, he came to the correct conclusion that the appellant lacked legal capacity to file a suit on behalf of Dr G (Bethuel) and that she had failed to demonstrate any independent interest or right over the shares," Court of Appeal judges ruled in February 2020.

The case is set for hearing on June 4, 2020, before Justice Mary Kasango.

Udi is married to Uhuru's elder sister, Jeni Wambui, and their children include Jomo and Nana.

Jomo serves as Uhuru's personal assistant at State House while Nana is the chief executive officer of the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Bethuel tied the knot with Margaret in 2007 after living as a widower since 1979 when his first wife, former nominated MP Jemima Gecaga passed away.
