Karanja Kibicho, Principal Secretary at the Department of Interior has defined the roadblocks that will isolate the Nairobi Metropolitan from the rest of Kenya.
In an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, April 6, the PS explained that the roadblocks will cordon off the Nairobi Metropolitan, restricting travel in an out of the city.
The first police roadblock would be set up at Athi River and would restrict movement beyond that point. "There will be a police roadblock at Athi River, at a place called Small World. Anyone outside of the Nairobi side will not be allowed to come in similarly, no one will be allowed to leave from Nairobi," clarified Kibicho.
The next roadblock would be set up on Katani Road near Mlolongo. The government had also defined another block at Kambulu with the fourth situated at Bluepost, Chania Bridge.
Kibicho further highlighted that there would be another roadblock set up on Garissa Road that would restrict movement from the North Eastern and Eastern Parts of the Country.
"We will set up another roadblock on Garissa road at BAT Junction for people coming from North Eastern and Eastern using that route," clarified the PS.
There would also be roadblocks in Uplands for those coming in from Rift Valley and Upper Kiambu. While yet another roadblock would be set up at Rironi, Mai Mahiu.
The last four will be located in Ngong, Kiserian, Isinya and Ting'ang'a as per the directives issued by the Kibicho.
"There will be a roadblock just up beyond Ngong because Ngong town is what is defined under Nairobi metropolitan. We'll have another at Kiserian, another at Isinya and another at Ting'ang'a," stated the PS.
Kibicho provided that the restrictions had been put in place in light of the heavy interactions between the residents of these outskirt locations and Nairobi.
As per the PS, there will be multi-agency teams at the roadblocks.
"At these roadblocks, we will have a multi-agency team: police, enforcers, ministry of health officials to do temperature checks, national administration will be present and we'll also have people from the NIS," stated the PS.
As per the directives, there would be no movement in and out be motorists and only cargo trucks ferrying essential items would be allowed through.
"No personal vehicle will be allowed to pass, neither a bicycle nor a motorcycle, only cargo trucks ferrying goods and food will be allowed to pass on the condition that they have one driver and up to three assistants," Kibicho clarified.
