Kenyans Mistreated in China: CS Omamo Under Fire Over Silence by Kenyans247(1): Mon 13, April, 2020 08:14am
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, is under fire following her silence regarding the apparent recent events in China that has seen Kenyans thrown out to the streets by landlords in the host nation.

Hundreds of Kenyans have taken to social media to question her whereabouts including prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi.

"I'm disappointed with the letters CS Omamo is writing left and right on the inhuman treatment of Kenyans in China. She should have the guts (or does she first need permission from H.E [Uhuru Kenyatta] to summon the Chinese Ambassador in Nairobi to the Foreign Office and officially protest," he stated in a tweet shared on Sunday, April 12.
He then shared a video of Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Geoffrey Onyeama, during a meeting with his Chinese officials in which he demands swift action. The lawyer demanded a similar meeting to be held by CS Omamo in order to bring an end to the suffering currently being endured by Africans in certain towns in China.

Kenyans.co.ke spoke to a number of Kenyans stuck in China who are trying to find their way through the predicament facing them, with one residing in Guangzhou revealing that she was in quarantine, where food was being rationed, adding that the conditions were unbearable.

"They took me into quarantine yesterday, Thursday, April 9, but the food is just noodles. They said we stay here for 14 days. So after the 14 days, we don't know what will happen next. We need to be home before it gets worse for us," she pleaded.

Photos of Africans sleeping on cold concrete streets in China have since gone viral, sparking a diplomatic nightmare, with Kenyans demanding swift action by the government to bring its citizens home.

Another woman who spoke exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, revealed that she was living in fear for her life after reports surfaced alleging that Africans may be a target of a potential vaccine testing in China.

"They are only testing the blacks. This is why I'm gripped with fear after being locked up here with police surrounding the building. They were reports that they want to test the vaccine on us. Maybe that's why we are here. Oh my God!," she narrated.

The tense situation escalated even further on April 10, when residents of Migori invaded a gold mine over land grabbing claims, forcing a government administrator and a Chinese investor to flee.

According to reports, the Chinese investor fled by jumping over a mabati fence as armed police watched helplessly.

The residents then claimed that the land in which the Chinese national dug the mine was grabbed from locals.

CS Omamo was last seen n public on April 7 when she received a cheque of Ksh10 Million; a donation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) staff, towards the Covid-19 Emergency Respond Fund.

Prior to that, she hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng, on March 10, during a courtesy call, going on to reveal that they exchanged views on China-Kenya relations and the Covid-19 outbreak.
