|Health Ministry Confirms 11 New Cases as 10 Recover [VIDEO] by Kenyans247(1): Wed 29, April, 2020 06:25am|
Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman on Tuesday, April 28, announced that 11 new Covid-19 cases had been confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Speaking from Afya House, the CAS stated that the total number of those who had tested positive for the virus had now risen to 374, adding that two are children aged three years old.
"Seven of the new cases are from Nairobi while four are from Mombasa," he stated.
In terms of distribution in Nairobi, Kawangware recorded 4 cases, Eastleigh (1), Manji (1) and Kaloleni (1) while the four cases from Mombasa are all from Kibokoni (Old Town).
Dr Aman requested residents of the areas mentioned to take extra measures to avoid contracting the disease.
Further, Dr Aman noted that the government would enhance contact tracing, surveillance and infection control management in both Mombasa and Nairobi.
“It is important to note the trend of positive cases have been restricted to Nairobi and Mombasa. This indicative of increased local transmission in these two counties. The rest of the counties are advised to continue observing the containment measures,” Aman stated.
So far, in terms of the distribution of COVID-19 cases, Nairobi has 241, Mombasa (97), Kilifi (9), Mandera (8), Kiambu (5), Kajiado (3), Kitui(2) Nakuru (2), Siaya (2), Homa Bay (1), Kakamega (1), Kwale (1) and Uasin Gishu (1).
At the same time, the CAS confirmed that 10 more patients had been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 124.
"This is not the time to celebrate and lose sight of the enemy. It is necessary that we continue to strictly observe the stringent measures advocated by the Ministry of Health,” Dr Aman cautioned.
Meanwhile, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has ordered that Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps be put on lockdown from Wednesday, April 29, to curb the spread of the virus.
