Why I’m holding vigils for victims of #EndSARS protests –Ayo Manuel by Kenyans247(1): Sun 01, November, 2020 08:54am
Saddened by the shooting of unarmed protesters at the Lekki tollgate, Lagos, United States of America-based Nigerian singer and peace activist, Ayo Manuel, is inviting the global community to join Nigerians in observing candlelight vigils in honour of all lives lost due to the #EndSARS protests.
Shortly before the nationwide protests, Manuel had sued for peace, urging citizens to embrace love as the only virtue that could save Nigeria from possible implosion.

Explaining why he called for vigils to be held across the world on November 15, the social activist said, “We should come together as a united human race to honour the brave youths that were only asking their government to protect and care for them but lost their lives. Let us come together and stand with their families, for their pain is our pain. When one of us is hurting, we all feel it because we are all connected.

“The vigil would also symbolise hope for all Nigerians. It signifies a rebirth of the country as a nation that would allow its youth to grow and prosper; a new nation that would offer equal rights and justice to all. The united youths of Nigeria have already shown by their actions that a new nation that unites and cares for its citizens is possible.”

Manuel, who is the founder and President of MansMark Records, has a long history of activism and organised several rallies to save human rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and the Ogoni nine, from being killed by a former military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
