Elders to curse those opposed to Lenku’s coronation by Kenyans247(1): Fri 13, November, 2020 04:38pm
A group of elders in Kajiado has defended the naming of Governor Joseph ole Lenku the Maa spokesman, threatening to curse those opposed to the decision.

The 65 to 100-year-olds, drawn from the Iseuri age set held a crisis meeting in Kajiado Thursday.

They said “dire consequences” await any community member who goes against their decision.

They claimed to have widely consulted community members in Kajiado, Narok, Laikipia, Nakuru, Baringo and Samburu counties before agreeing on Mr Lenku taking over as the Maa spokesman from William ole Ntimama who died in 2016.

Mr Lenku was installed the community spokesman in a traditional ceremony held in Gilgil, Nakuru county.

Days after his installation, some leaders dismissed the ceremony, hurling insults at those who were at the event.

During a traditional ceremony in Mashuuru on Monday, former Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye and Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko said Mr Lenku’s installation as community spokesman has no value.

Ms Tobiko castigated former Kajiado Central MP David Sankoli for attending the ceremony.

The elders said they are the legitimate community leaders.

“The decision is irreversible. Those opposed to it will incur the elders’ wrath in the next 30 days. There will be a big ceremony in Kajiado to celebrate Governor Lenku’s installation,” Mr Richard Oloitiptip, one of the elders, told journalists.

“Elders will not entertain side shows. We might even invoke curses.”

The elders said some political leaders are trivialising the issue and inciting the community against them “for selfish gains”.
