He had 51 total fights with a record of 46 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw with 30 knockouts. Tuur won a bronze medal at the 1987 Turin European Amateur Championships as a featherweight. He gained fame when he knocked out world champion American Kelcie Banks during the first round of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Tuur also defeated Kenyan John Wanjau and Great Britain's David Anderson before being defeated by Romanian Daniel Dumitrescu who won the silver medal. Tuur turned professional in 1989 and won the World Boxing Organisation world title in 1994 when he defeated Eugene Speed. He made his professional debut in July 1989 and defeated Daniel Pantoja.
