Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko surprised parents of Precious Talent school who lost their children September 23, during the collapse that claimed 8 lives and injured 64.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Nairobi County communications director Jacob Elkanah affirmed that the bereaved parents had received money from the governor as promised.

Past reports indicated that the Governor had donated Ksh 100, 000 each to the eight bereaved families as well as promising to foot the funeral expenses.
However, the parents of the deceased later blasted him, President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga for apparently not delivering on the promises.

On Wednesday, October 9 reports by Nairobi News disclosed that the parents received the money from Sonko's administration but in 'salary' form.

David Njeru a father of one of the children admitted that he got confused after the money that the governor had pledged read that he was receiving a salary from City Hall.

"I want to know if the money was a donation or the Nairobi county had employed the families who lost children in the tragedy and if we have been employed,” Njeru highlighted.

More reports indicated that the family raised concern as to whether the assistance may have been irregularly paid out of the county salaries account.

The Governor's office, however, dispelled the allegations confirming that the money was drawn from the county emergency fund.
