|Luhya MPs' Ban Ruto From Khalwale's Wife's Funeral by Saocv(m): Mon Oct 2019 11:42am|
A section of some disgruntled leaders from Western Kenya, on Thursday, October 10, banned Deputy President William Ruto from visiting the region over Nandi Evictions.
Speaking to the press, the group led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, claimed that it was unacceptable for the DP not to intervene, yet the over 1,500 Kenyans reportedly genuinely own the land.
They further pinpointed that they were aware he was scheduled to visit the region on Saturday, October 12, but reminded him that he was not welcome in the region.
The residents were forcefully evicted from their homes in Nandi on Wednesday, October 9, over a land tussle.
The leaders argued that students who were scheduled to begin their national examinations were the most affected.
"I do not want to mince my words. I want to tell Deputy President William Ruto that you have been our friend and you have been coming to Western Kenya every weekend.
"We would like to tell you that we know you are coming on Saturday to mourn with us in Kakamega. We want to tell you that you are not welcome if Luhyas are not settled in Nandi," stated Malala.
"We will not allow you to come to Kakamega County for harambees or to lie to us that you support us yet our people are suffering in your backyard," he continued.
Other leaders who were present at the presser include Caleb Amisi (MP, Saboti), Florence Mutua (Busia Woman Representative), George Aladwa (Makadara), Geoffrey Osotsi (nominated) and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
"We do not want to have friends only when they come to look for votes," Osotsi stated.
Ruto is expected to attend the burial ceremony of the late wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.
