|Day Worshippers Blocked Moi's Motorcade From State House by Saocv(m): Tue Oct 2019 07:31am|
Former President Daniel Arap Moi was known for his love for religion. This could be easily established by the fact that Mzee almost never missed a church service in his life, and he would would make sure the country new so if the Sunday evening broadcasts on KBC were anything to go by.
It is his love for religious activities that once had his way blocked by the fellow worshippers while on his way to State House, the Daily Nation reported on Sunday, October 21.
Apart from being a staunch faithful of the African Inland Church (AIC), Moi had developed a liking for Christ is the Answer Ministries (Citam) church.
In 1983, the former president happened to pass by the church but his motorcade was blocked because the roadside had been turned into a parking lot by worshippers.
At the time, Citam, Valley Road in Nairobi had limited parking space.
Concerned, he invited the Citam's leadership to State House and offered to help resolve the parking crisis.
Moi then pulled strings and reached out to a hotel owner next to the church and convinced him to sell the plot to him, according to the Daily Nation.
The hotelier agreed to the president's request and sold his plot before relocating the hotel to another piece of land that Moi helped him acquire.
This came only a year after Moi had visited the church for thanksgiving after the failed 1982 military coup.
