|President Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Ivory Coast village capital city by Kenyans247(m): Sun Nov 2019 11:51am|
After independence, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Ivory Coast made his home village of Yamoussoukro the capital city
He only employed the French as advisors, administrators and technicians.
He spared no expense in transforming Yamoussoukro into a modern city. He built an airport with a Concorde runway, the first ice skating rink in West Africa, and the world's largest basilica.
Since he was a man of grandeur, he built himself an impressive palace and surrounded it with a small lake full of man eating crocodiles.
The crocodiles were a present from a foreign leader, and Boigny used them to symbolize his mystique over his people.
His pets have now escaped into the city's waterways and reproduced, almost 26 years after his death. They eat anybody who goes near the water.
