|Why did the British colonize Uganda? by Kenyans247(m): Thu Jan 2020 10:57am|
This is an easy one. Initially it was for trade, i.e. the cheap source of raw materials for their industries. But over time objectives changed and when the source of the Nile river was finally located by the explorers, it became a matter of strategic importance to control it and the areas around it.
There were a lot of different hostile groups of natives inland, the Kabaka of Buganda was indifferent to the explorers hence they managed to establish their forts on his lands in exchange for protection from his neighbors attacks and raids. The protectorate grew from that into a full colony later on (after some treaties and agreements)
I hope my brief answer helps.
