Which country is better in Nigeria and Rwanda? by Kenyans247(1): Thu Jan 2020 10:38am
Both of these countries have their own place on the continent. Their governance systems are very different, their respective cultures, and economic systems.

Nigeria has everything they need to succeed. They have the human and resource capital to make Nigeria the greatest country on the continent. As a Rwandan, it would be unnecessary to tell Nigerians what they already know themselves.

A country that produces the best business savvy people on the continent (Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, etc).
A country that produces the best writers and artists on the globe (Fela Kuti, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Angozi, etc.
If I were to point out a few things, I would highlight income inequality and governance systems. Nigeria will be unstoppable when her people find a way to elect pragmatic leaders who are competitive and want to make Nigeria great. Leaders who can invest in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to raise the quality of life for ALL Nigerians, not just the privileged few. Until then, Nigeria will always be a “sleeping” giant.

To give you an idea, life expectancy ( at birth) in Nigeria went from 47 years in 1994 to 54 years in 2018. Compared to Rwanda, it went from 27 years in 1994 to 67 years in 2018. This is where Nigeria is under-performing, IMHO. In the past 25 years, an increment of 7 years shows the need for major improvement. At the same time, Rwanda made significant strides by 40 years. If you are talking about the “future”, the people have to be part of that vision. No future without the people.
