Procedure

The older persons grant program is known as the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) Inua Jamii cash transfer Program. This is an initiative by the Government of Kenya under the Ministry of EAC, Labour and Social Protection that seeks to provide cash transfers to elderly Kenyans above the age of 70 to enable them live dignified lives.

Apply in person

Visit your local District Social Development Officer in your District Office to apply for the older persons grant (Inua Jamii cash transfer Program)
You will be given an application form by the social development officer to fill. The application form is not available online, and you can only get it at your nearest District Social Development Office
You will be required to provide your National Identification Card so as to prove your age and place of residence. Note; the cash transfer is only available for Kenyan citizens above the age of 70 years.
After submission of your application period your bio-data will be captured for the vetting processing to begin. During vetting, applicants will have to go through a community validation exercise before the first payment cycle.
You will also be required to open a bank account with the Payment Service Providers (PSP) who handle the cash transfer. You can open your bank account in any of the following banks
(i). Kenya Commercial Bank,
(ii) Equity Bank,
(iii) Cooperative Bank
(iv) Post Bank
After submission of your application and all the required documents, and lapse of vetting period (usually three months). You will receive your first payment of Ksh. 2,000 per month through your (PSP)
Payments is usually made after two mouths which totals to Ksh 4000

Eligibility

Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) is for an older person who is:
A Kenyan citizen, 70 years and above
Not receiving pension
Not enrolled in any other cash transfer program
Residing in a particular location for more than a year

Fees

Registration is done for free.

Validity

It is valid until the elder is deceased
The grant will lapse when you:
(i) pass away
(ii) are admitted to a state institution
(iii) do not claim for three consecutive months
(iv) are absent from the country.

Application documents are provided at the County and Sub-County Social Development offices.

The Inua Jamii cash transfer Program comes with a free medical cover through the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF)
Enrolment is done electronically so that the bio data of the beneficiaries can be captured in the bio-data system.

Beneficiaries will be given NHIF cards will cover many treatments like dialysis, prostrate, Hypertension, major & minor surgeries, cancer treatments e.g. radiation, chemotherapy, etc.
Free treatment is offered Government hospitals as well as any other private hospital graded A by NHIF. For hospitals graded B, also coverage is pretty high.
Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, Cooperative Bank and Post Bank were selected for the cash transfer. One is required to open an account with one of these banks.

The Inua Jamii 70 Years and Above Cash Transfer Programme is an enhancement of the previous project initiated in 2012 and which targeted individuals aged above 65 and living in extreme poverty.
