The Apple iPod nano (Sixth Generation/1.54" Multitouch/Clip) is a radical departure in design compared to previous iPod nano models with a small square aluminum and glass case design and a "clip" on the back to attach it to clothing (like iPod shuffle models).

It has a 1.54" color TFT display (240x240, 220 ppi) and supports a multitouch interface running an iOS-inspired operating system but it cannot run iOS applications or games compatible with previous iPod models either. Other features include an integrated pedometer and FM radio with "live pause" functionality as well as Nike+iPod, VoiceOver, and "Shake to Shuffle" support. However, it does not have a microphone, speaker, or camera.

It is offered in silver, graphite, blue, green, orange, pink and (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition and all colors are available with either 8 GB or 16 GB of flash memory, capable of supporting roughly 2000 or 4000 songs and 7000 or 14,000 photos, respectively. It does not support video playback. Apple estimates that battery life is "up to" 24 hours of music playback when fully charged.

On October 4, 2011, Apple unveiled a "new" version of this iPod nano, but it is identical (including identifiers) apart from updated software -- with larger icons, new digital clock faces, and easier fitness tracking -- and a lower price. The earlier models can be updated to use the new software, too.

Despite the age of this device, site sponsor OWC has inexpensive, compatible headphones and some upgrades and parts for vintage iPods while supplies last.
