Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, cracked up Citizen TV anchor Yvonne Okwara with a viral sheng phrase coined from the hit song Utawezana by Mejja and Femi One.

Haji, while informing the News Gang panellist on the measures the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution had undertaken to ensure they still offered services as the country fought the Coronavirus Pandemic, reiterated that it was important for the youth to adhere to government directives.

The DPP argued that no matter how much the youth were hyping the jam, they should also popularise the government initiative to curb the spread Covid-19.

"We were asked to caution everyone to observe the rules. I know there is this popular song going on, known as Okwonkwo Utawezana. And I must say that hawatawezana na Covid-19 kama hawaoshi mkono, hawaobserve isolation na hawavai mask. Okwonkwo hatawezana na Coronavirus asipofuata diretives.

(They should know that they would not defeat Corona if they do not observe social-distancing, handwashing, and isolation)," Haji stated.

The DPP also disclosed the source of the Ksh2 billion proceeds from corruption which was channelled towards the Coronavirus kitty.

"The bulk of the money came from deferred prosecutions which we entered with the banks under the NYS program, a number of other plea bargains and voluntary surrender of money by individuals who were to be prosecuted.

"The effect of the Coronavirus has been felt in all sectors, not only the judiciary. We have put quite a number of measures to be able to discharge our duties. We had a number of meetings with the Chief Justice and the Inspector General and issued certain directives. In the ODPP, we have ensured that our officers are well protected, issued them masks, sanitizers, and asked them to observe hand washing, social distancing and we are also working on a 14-day rotter to ensure that our services are accessed by the public," Haji disclosed.

Haji who directed Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to launch a probe into an incident where a 13-year-old boy died after he was shot by police, while they enforced the curfew on the evening of Monday, March 30, 2020, revealed that an investigation by IPOA was also underway.

"Investigations have to be done into the killing of the 13-year-old and we cannot say it is a stray bullet as the police claim. At ODPP we shall review the file after IPOA hand it over.

"The IG condemned the incident and 14 police officers are in the disciplinary process and can lose their jobs," Haji revealed.
